Safeguarding in Sport: Ensuring a Safe Environment for All
Welcome to our running club's dedicated page on safeguarding in sport. As a community-focused organization, we prioritize the well-being and safety of all our members. Safeguarding is integral to our values, and we are committed to creating a positive and secure environment where everyone can participate and thrive.
Why is Safeguarding Important?
Safeguarding encompasses the measures taken to protect the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of individuals, particularly children and vulnerable adults. In the context of sports, safeguarding initiatives are designed to prevent harm, abuse, discrimination, and harassment.
Here's why safeguarding matters:
-
Protection: Safeguarding initiatives aim to prevent and respond to instances of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.

-
Inclusivity: By creating a safe environment, we promote inclusivity and diversity within our running club, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds, abilities, and ages

-
Legal and Ethical Obligations: We have a responsibility to comply with legal and ethical obligations related to safeguarding, ensuring that our club operates in accordance with relevant laws and regulations in order to safeguard our members.

-
Preserving Trust & Reputation: Upholding high standards of safeguarding helps maintain the trust and confidence of our members, sponsors, and the wider community, enhancing our club's reputation. Effective safeguarding practices also help preserve the reputation and integrity of our club, demonstrating our commitment to the well-being of our members.
How to Report Incidents Anonymously
We understand that reporting incidents can be challenging, especially when anonymity is preferred or necessary. Our club provides channels for anonymous reporting, ensuring confidentiality and privacy for individuals who wish to raise concerns. Here's how you can report incidents anonymously:
-
Anonymous Reporting APP: We are currently waiting for communications from ASA and The Guardian which we will forward on to our members so that they may have access to the Anonymous Reporting App..** In the meanwhile, if you have any concerns or want to report any incident you can contact our Designated Safeguarding Officer, Dr Kirsten van Heerden, directly (kirsten@newtontrackclub.co.za) and she will assist you.
Your Role in Safeguarding
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and by working together, we can create a safe and enjoyable environment for all members of our running club. Every member of our running club plays a crucial role in safeguarding. Your vigilance and commitment to safeguarding contribute to the well-being and integrity of our community. If you witness or experience any form of misconduct or safeguarding concern, it's essential to speak up. By reporting incidents promptly and responsibly, you contribute to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all.
At Newton Track Club, safeguarding is a priority, and we are committed to fostering a culture of safety, respect, and inclusivity. Together, we can ensure that our club remains a place where everyone feels valued, protected, and empowered to pursue their passion for running.
Let's continue to uphold these principles and ensure that our club remains a place where everyone feels welcome, respected, and protected.
